The SIA Ecodesign Ready scheme is a Stove Industry Alliance initiative, recognised by the government in Defra’s Clean Air Strategy, that clearly demonstrates the members of the SIA are committed to meeting the five stringent efficiency and emission limits of the Ecodesign regulations now, rather than waiting for the implementation date of early 2022.
Ecodesign stoves represent the future of burning wood, they support the Government's Clean Air Strategy and further reduce emissions to help us achieve a greener future.
The five measures covered in the Ecodesign Ready scheme are seasonal efficiency, NOx, CO, PM (Particulate Matter) and OGCs (Organic Gaseous Compounds). This does not imply that these stoves meet all other future requirements of Ecodesign regulations, such as product labelling and instruction manuals, which come in to force in 2022. Other areas of compliance are not examined for the Ecodesign Ready scheme.
The SIA Ecodesign Ready scheme highlights SIA Members’ commitment to improving appliance design so that their stoves are cleaner, more efficient and contribute to improving our environment through lower emissions.
Ecodesign compliant wood stoves must have a minimum efficiency of 75% compared with the current CE requirement of 65%. The difference in efficiency of Ecodesign ready stoves compared with older stoves and open fires can be clearly seen in the efficiency label chart shown below.
